Okay, I'm going to focus on using this page more often to document progress on a couple fronts: the RoR race; startup idea generation; music production development. Current statuses (I'll come up with a better way to document this info, but for now, this method will do): RoR race: Off and running with the Rails tutorial. Great to get the development environment set up and start to make sense of what previously looked like (and was) a foreign language. I'm incredibly energized by the prospects. I've had so many ideas go through my head as mere pipe dreams, and now it feels like I'm actually taking steps toward building those ideas into realities. Feel free to check out my GitHub page to track my repositories. I'll post other relevant links here as they become available. Startup idea generation: My mind is always on this track, to varying degrees. Honestly, when I thought about it yesterday, I was more actively exploring 8-12 months ago than I have been recently, so step 1 is to bounce back up to that higher level of mental activity in this area. I just read a Chris Dixon post where he notes that the next big things are often sitting right in front of us, so I'm going to tune my mind into that and see what people are spending their mental energy and time on, and how improvements can be made on top of those things. In a big-picture sense, I'm trying to explore the recent evolutions in the way we're communicating (both on a large-scale and one-to-one). Obviously it's drastically different from 10 years ago. But then I start to think of how different it is from 5 years ago. And how different it is from 1 year ago. It's clearly an ever-evolving space, so I'd like to start concepting new ideas for it. Music production: Initial project presentation went well. The client liked the direction of the music, and we're discussing some vocal options to lay on top. A few minor tweaks to make, and then getting the final mix right (which could prove very interesting). Again, a great way to learn more and get as fast as possible with the execution. |
Dude - first off the groove shark widget is amazing, thanks for popping that in here. Did you snag the script from grooveshark and use a wrapper to put it on the page? I've had a hard time getting things like that to work.
Also fully on board with what you are talking about with startups and where the ideas come from. That's why I want to be a builder...so when the thing right in front of me raises its hand I can do something about it!
Thanks, buddy. And yep, I did exactly that: grabbed the embed code from Grooveshark and threw it in a wrapper. It's great because it updates automatically based on the playlist I maintain in Grooveshark.
Those songs in there now are primarily my inspiration on the music front. There are certain bits and pieces of each one that I really love, so I want to keep sort of an "audio mood board" that I can go to for inspiration.
Nice! Feel free to pop that gadget on the homepage or even a tab up top with the player embedded - love it!
Fuckers! The player works on my work computer (pc) but not my mac - wonder why
